Nicole Scherzinger says she doesn't know "what the future holds" but "never say never" regarding a Pussycat Dolls reunion
Scherzinger says the band taught her not to have an "ego" — and she passed that wisdom on to contestants on Building the Band
Building the Band premiered on Netflix on Wednesday, July 9
Nicole Scherzinger is in her element.
Speaking with PEOPLE ahead of Netflix's Building the Band premiere on Wednesday, July 9, the singer-songwriter — who serves as a judge and mentor on the show — revealed whether a Pussycat Dolls reunion could happen in the future.
"Never say never, girl," Scherzinger, 47, who was a part of the Pussycat Dolls from 2003 to 2010, says.
"No idea. I mean, I'm still in Norma land and Sunset Boulevard land," she adds of the Broadway show revival in which she won a Tony and currently stars, "but who knows what the future holds."
Scherzinger also revealed the most valuable advice she learned as a member of the girl group, which she was able to pass on to the contestants.
"I think to not have an ego and everyone plays a strong role in their own way," Scherzinger says.
"There's different roles and it's all for the betterment of the band," she continues. "When we were in this process, when the bands were forming, so many of the band members had unbelievable voices, really strong soloist voices, but not everyone could be a solo singer because it was a band. You had to know when you took your lead and you had to know when you could harmonize."
The "Buttons" singer emphasized the importance of knowing your "strength" and "superpower" in the band — all while giving it "your all."
"That's when you're going to be able to make the band as strong as it can be," she concludes.

Kelly Rowland, Liam Payne and Nicole Scherzinger on Building the Band
The first four episodes of Building the Band — which also features AJ McLean as host and Kelly Rowland and the late Liam Payne as judges — are now available to watch on Netflix.
When Netflix first approached her about the opportunity, Scherzinger says she had "never heard of anything like this" and she "jumped at the opportunity."
"I've been doing this for quite a long time. I really pride myself in mentoring and helping out however I can, and one of my superpowers is trying to find the best in people and in blossoming artists. I was really excited to lend any of my gifts and experience to the show," says Scherzinger, who's judged several talent shows including The Sing-Off, The X Factor US, The X Factor UK, Australia's Got Talent and The Masked Singer.
Looking back on her experience, Scherzinger says her time with Payne, Rowland and McLean was "really beautiful" — especially the One Direction singer.
"We got pretty close through this whole experience," she says of the late singer, who died in October 2024 at age 31, months after filming the show.
"Liam is such a kind and beautiful heart, and selfishly I'm glad that I got to spend my time with him. I'm really happy that the world gets to see another one of his gifts, which is helping these blossoming artists, these bands," she says. "He was amazing. I was really impressed with him. He was just so giving and generous, even when the cameras weren't rolling, spending time with all the fans and singing to them. It was lovely to watch him in his element."

On Building the Band, "singers are in complete control as they seek to form their very own bands in individual ‘booths’ without ever seeing each other. All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit," per a synopsis for the show.
"What will happen when the bands finally meet, and looks, choreography, and style come into play? With incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal — to find the next great music band — the stage is set for an unforgettable experience."
